Dr. Adam Schembri

Dr. Adam Schembri
Since 1993, I have worked at a number of institutions as a research assistant, lecturer, and sign language interpreter, including the University of Sydney, Macquarie University, the University of Newcastle and the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children in Australia, as well as the University of Bristol in the UK.

My research and teaching experience has also encompassed a number of areas in sign language linguistics, including work on aspects of the lexicon, grammar and sociolinguistics of Australian Sign Language (Auslan). I have written an introductory text on the linguistics of Auslan entitled 'Australian Sign Language: An introduction to sign language linguistics', co-authored with Trevor Johnston (published by Cambridge University Press in 2007). You can order the book here.

At DCAL, I am a senior research fellow and project director for the British Sign Language Corpus Project. You can find out more about me and the work I do on my personal web site.
