Deaf Approach to Life Project

The project is a collaboration between the Social Research with Deaf people group (SORD- http://www.nursing.manchester.ac.uk/research/researchgroups/socialwork/sord/) at the University of Manchester, DCAL and the London Psychometric Laboratory ( UCL ) and is funded by the Nuffield Foundation.

The aim of the study is to help us learn more about how Deaf people approach life e.g. Are Deaf people naturally optimistic? How much do they think they can influence stressful things that happen in their lives? There is already a simple questionnaire that has been designed to measure approach to life. The problem is there is no copy in BSL that is suitable for Deaf people. If we have an Approach to Life questionnaire for Deaf BSL users then it can be used in a wide range of research projects and Deaf people can be included. A team of Deaf and hearing researchers have developed the first ever Approach to Life Questionnaire for Deaf BSL users.

To help us develop the Approach to Life Questionnaire for Deaf BSL users, we need as many Deaf people as possible to fill in an on line questionnaire that will be in British Sign Language. If you are happy to take part, you will sign a consent form to say that you have agreed to take part. Volunteers will receive £20.
